Cyprus Introduction
Culture
The people of Cyprus are predominantly Greek Cypriots (about
80%) with a smaller proportion of Turkish Cypriots, the former
being mainly Greek Orthodox and the latter being mainly Muslim.
Cyprus has been ruled by many nations since at least 715 BC
when Assyria was dominant, until independence form Britain
in 1960. While Cypriots are not overtly nationalistic they
do retain a strong sense of belonging to their country.
