Cyprus Living
Banking
The Cypriot banking system is very similar to that in the
UK with the Central Bank controlling the banking system. Many
international banks are represented in Cyprus, and opening
an account is a relatively simple transaction. Most major
credit cards are accepted.
The currency is the Cypriot Pound (CYP) which is made up
not of shillings or pence, but of 100 cents. Coins are only
used for cents, whereas notes are used for the Pounds.
Banking hours are normally 8:30 and 12:30 on Monday to Friday.
During the tourist season some of the banks will also open
during the afternoon, but check beforehand.
