Government
Cyprus is a sovereign republic having achieved independence
from Britain on 16th August 1960. The Republic of Cyprus is
a democracy with regular elections being held. The head of
state is the President. The House of Representatives has 56
seats of which 24 are reserved for Turkish Cypriot delegates,
although these seats have not been occupied since before the
invasion.
