Cyprus Introduction

Turkish Occupation

The Northern portion of Cyprus has been under Turkish occupation since 20th July 1974. Recognition of the Cypriot claims to this land is required as a condition of Turkish accession to the European Union.

In November 2002 Recep Tayyip Erdogan, leader of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party stated that the new government is serious about meeting the European Union's criteria for membership, and is committed to democratic reforms and to resolution of the Cyprus conflict. Mr Erdogan said "A positive decision at the December 12 summit will affect Muslims' view of Europe, and offers the chance of more unity between the civilisations."

In the meantime due to the potential for disputes over the ownership of land and property, Zest Properties is not currently dealing with purchases in the occupied area.
