Cyprus Introduction
Language
Cypriot Greek is the official language in the Republic of
Cyprus. Cypriot Greek is a dialect of Greek with a significant
number of words being specific to the Cypriot speakers. English
is an unofficial second language in the south, and is widely
spoken partially due to the historic influence, and also due
to the prominence of the tourist industry. Getting around
in Cyprus is very simple, street and shop signs are in both
Greek and English, Most people speak English and live in Greek
culture and the island bears a distinct British influence
where English is widely spoken. Turkish is the official language
in the North and is only occasionally spoken in the south.
